Rebecca "Fireplug" has been a certified social circus coach with Cirque du Soleil's Cirque du Monde program since 2009. Using trauma informed care as the framework, this specialized form of play therapy becomes a mechanism for healing trauma experienced by marginalized populations. Working with children and young people on a global scale, she has integrated her knowledge and skills within a variety of youth, circus and medical organizations - teaching a variety of populations valuable social and life skills to forever carry with them into society. In Los Angeles, California, she has worked with homeless, runaways, inner city and LGBTQ youth. In South Africa, she has worked with Zip Zap Circus School, providing circus therapies to township youth and children born HIV+, within the township of Khayelitsha. This programming is partnered by Cirque du Soleil, the Ubuntu Clinic and Doctors Without Borders. In addition, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from California State University Los Angeles, graduating with the highest distinction (Summa Cum Laude).
